This flagship cinema in the heart of vibrant Brixton is London’s busiest and biggest independent cinema with five screens taking over 370,000 admissions a year. It is also the only cinema in the country with two digital projectors. Screenings of the best of world cinema are backed up by regular Sunday matinees, a choice of two different films for kids on Saturdays monthly Mother and Baby screenings and a host of one-off events.
The original Ritzy was designed as the Electric Pavilion in 1910 by E. C. Homer and Lucas. The client was Israel Davis, one of a noted family of cinema developers who created a large chain in south and west London that included the listed Pavillion, Shepherds Bush. I've been going here for a long time. The Ritzy, is the beating heart of Brixton, along with the Market, Cold Harbour lane and Cycle shop.
